Working Group 3 – Testbeams
The calorimeter projects included in the DRD Calo collaboration are in different development phases, but all of them need some rounds of test beam campaigns, from smaller prototypes to full containment modules. Furthermore, combined electromagnetic and hadronic modules are also foreseen to assess the performance and integration needs expected in possible future experiments.
Due to the large number of calorimeter technologies and the fact that calorimeters typically cannot concurrently run both in parallel with other calorimeters (except for planned combined tests) and with other devices, the request for calorimeter devices is, in general, quite large in terms of weeks for tests. Coordinating the effort in order to find appropriate time and space for every prototype is among the task of the Working group.
Moreover, the tests on beam for calorimeters, independently from the used technology, require several comon resources, among which PID detectors (e.g. Cherenkov threshold detectors for particle discrimination), trackers for position determination, trigger and timing determination devices. The WG3 aims at having a dedicated area, iconsidering initially CERN NA, where all these detectors are in place and maintained and usable to the whole DRD Calo community. Moreover, setting up a common EUDAQ infrastructure will be of major help for all the project, which only need to take care of the detector specific part.
